PALO ALTO, California, April 29 /PRNewswire/ --

- Highlights differences vs. legacy solutions

Nexenta Systems, Inc., developer of NexentaStor(TM), the leading enterprise class storage management software taking an open source approach to market, is pleased to announce the commercial release of NexentaStor Enterprise v. 1.0.

Current customers of NexentaStor include the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Motek Entertainment (Netherlands), Ozmo Devices, Stanford University and many other enterprises and Universities worldwide.

NexentaStor Enterprise Edition is superior to alternatives in at least five ways:

-- Storage without limits: based upon ZFS, a file system with 128 bit addressing and many other capabilities, NexentaStor offers limitless file system sizes and limitless numbers of incremental backups, known as snapshots. -- Inherent virtualization: keeping up with rapidly changing storage demands with legacy storage solutions is challenging. Storage administrators waste significant time and money adjusting volumes and adding capacity. NexentaStor is built from the ground up on storage virtualization, which makes all storage capacity available to all users and applications. In addition, NexentaStor uses virtualization to improve performance as scale increases because NexentaStor pools I/O operations as well as the underlying physical storage. -- Multi-level data integrity: data integrity for NexentaStor begins at the most basic level. Every transaction is verified, helping to prevent the silent data corruption problems that haunt legacy solutions. NexentaStor also supports a broad variety of RAID approaches as well as the use of scheduled and policy based backups, including file and block level backups. -- Built in search and ease of use: NexentaStor includes integrated indexing and search, saving time and simplifying the use of increasingly granular incremental backups. -- Open systems and open approaches: perhaps the biggest difference between NexentaStor and legacy solutions is Nexenta does not force you to buy special 'Nexenta hardware.' NexentaStor runs on industry standard hardware including solutions from Sun, HP, Intel and others.

Evan Powell, CEO of Nexenta Systems said, "We're very proud of the launch of NexentaStor Enterprise Edition 1.0 today. This launch is the result of the effort of thousands of users and developers. With today's commercial launch we've taken a significant step forward towards enterprise class storage for everyone."

Since NexentaStor was first released as a freely available beta product in November 2007 over 2,000 users have downloaded, installed, and registered the storage management software. In March of 2008 Nexenta Systems released a freely available Developer Edition v. 1.0, which is a fully featured version of NexentaStor Enterprise Edition available at no charge.
