AMSTERDAM, November 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Elsevier announced today that its flagship product Scopus, the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, will be nearly doubling its Arts Humanities (AH) titles. Access to the new journals will be available to Scopus users in April 2009. Currently the Scopus database contains 1,600 titles in AH and related fields.

Many countries will be better represented as a result of these added titles and researchers will have enhanced access to international AH content. Journal subjects include literature and literary theory (30% of new titles), general arts and humanities (22%), history (17%), visual/performing arts (16%), among others.

Nearly doubling the Arts Humanities titles will help make Scopus an even more comprehensive resource for our users, said Niels Weertman, Director Scopus and Scirus. We are excited that Scopus is the most holistic cross-disciplinary database with the broadest coverage in Science, Technology, Medicine, Social Sciences and soon also in the Arts Humanities.

This broader coverage will be well received by the librarian and research community, said Flora Grabowska, Science Librarian at Vassar College in New York. The number of citing records within reference lists and the completeness of the references in Scopus will help bring research in this area to the next level.
