About Barry
I’m a computer software researcher, and I'm currently working independently on Internet Messaging Technology. I retired at the end of February, 2009, as a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research center.
I also write a more general blog of this same name, at http://staringatemptypages.blogspot.com/
I’ve recently been spending most of my time working on antispam technology and email-related standards, and still keeping a finger or two in pervasive computing and context services technology, aiming to find new ways for computers to help make our lives better.
I'm very active in Internet standards development in the IETF, chair the IETF's DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail) working group, and was appointed to the Internet Architecture Board from 2007-2009.
I am on the editorial board for IEEE Internet Computing magazine, and I edit the Standards department of the magazine.
I was a program chair for the Conference on Email and AntiSpam (CEAS) in 2008, and have been on the program committee during the other years of the conference.
