As an old time chessplayer who's stopped competing in tournaments, I often entertain myself with the odd blitz game in some internet chess server. And more often than not, I play rather crappy chess. So nothing to report there... However fluctuations do occur.
I just played a combinative-style game which I wish to share, although I did not have the time yet (and I think I won't have time in the near future) to check the moves with a computer program. So my moves might well be flawed. Regardless, I enjoyed playing the game so that's enough motivation to report it here.

My handle on FICS is "allhadronic" (hadrons carry the strong force, and the all-hadronic decay of the top quark was my undergraduate thesis topic). I played against some JahnTeig, who like me floats at a blitz rating of about 1900 or so. Here is the game, with minimal commentary.

Allhadronic - JahnTeig, FICS blitz 3' per player

1.e4 c6

The Caro-Kann defence, a good choice for blitz.

2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4.c4

White chooses the Panov variation, which is an attacking setup that concedes black some target in the d4 square.

4.... Nf6 5.Nc3 g6

By fianchettoing his bishop, black temporarily yields a pawn, reasoning that it will be an easy target of its pieces and it will grant easy development of its forces.

6.cxd5 Bg7 7.Bc4 0-0 8.Nge2 a6 9.0-0 Nbd7 10.Bb3

White foresees Nb6 and thus saves the d5 pawn for the time being, with the idea of exerting pressure on the e file.

10.... b5 11.a3 Nb6 12.Nf4 Ne8 13.Re1 Nd6 14.Qf3

This is a bad move, as it jettisons the d4 pawn for no reason. I wanted to play this only after having secured it but then forgot about it... It happens, in 3' chess!

14.... Bf5 15.Be3

Fortunately black does not invest the 1.5 seconds needed to grab the pawn, pardoning my inaccuracy.

15....Rc8 16. Rad1 Nbc4 17.Bc1 Qb6

With its last move black also jettisoned its e7 pawn, eyeing the d4 pawn again in exchange. But it forgets that I can attack e7 with tempo, by first forcing its bishop on d7.

18. g4! Bd7 19.Rxe7 Rfd8

And now disaster strikes. What would you play with white here ?

20.Ne6!!

Played a' tempo and completely out of instinct. I had not worked out the details, just feeling that it was the right thing to do to increase the pressure on the kingside. Luck was on my side this time...

20.... fxe6 21.dxe6 Be8?

This loses by force. He should have played Bxe6 (again remember I did not check the moves on a computer yet!), to avert immediate defeat.

22.Rxg7+!

Of course! The only last defender of the king goes, and with it the game.

22.... Kxg7 23.Nd5! Qb7

Nothing really matters much, as black loses its queen or gets mated. Bc6 (with the idea that Nxb6 is met by Bxf3) loses to Qf6+ and Ne7 mate.

24.Qf6+ Kg8 25.Ne7+ Qxe7 26.Qxe7 Ne4 27.Bh6, resigns

as there is no defence against mate on g7. A pretty game considering it was a 3' blitz, ain't it ?
