In 2000, 2016, and 2020, a political party declared that the electoral college needed to go - because they lost.

What they don't realize is that despite how state results appear in their favor, they are not. If it was a direct vote, a candidate would win with 26% of the electorate, parties would be irrelevant, and the victor would be the candidate with the most aggressive position on a hot-button issue, abortion, guns, whatever. The rest of us would have to live with it.

Do you want to be told that your Thanksgiving meal has to be turkey? That's what you'd be getting, because right now more older people vote, and 39% of older people in a new poll say turkey rules - while only 24% of young people agree. It gets worse, 43% prefer white meat but only 28% prefer dark.

We'd have tyranny of the majority; only turkey and only white meat.

Stuffing does not stand a chance, it's only 19%, while mashed potatoes do even worse at 6%. Cranberry sauce lovers would have little say as well, because while 24% prefer canned, 35% want it gone completely. Georgia residents will be grumpy that their pecan pie lost out to pumpkin but a third of respondents have spoken.

The survey was of 1,239 adults designed to represent the U.S. population. It was conducted November 2nd through-6th of this year and the margin of error for all respondents is +/- 3.9% - which means it is as accurate as any poll, which is to say not at all, so eat what you want and be happy majority votes don't matter on Thanksgiving.
