DUBAI, October 26, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Regional experts from North Africa and the Middle East are gathering at an upcoming forum which will investigate new approaches to maximize production from aging oil reservoirs. Recognizing that the giant discovery age is over, the forum will feature Egyptian oil producing heavyweights GUPCO and NOPC as well as other regional leaders such as PDO.
Using water cut control methods is another way of increasing oil production in North Africa and has been utilized in Petrodar's Sudanese oilfields. The oil producer's Section Head of Reservoir Engineering, Hafiz Wahdi Siddiq, will highlight the operating company's approach to the technique after using horizontal wells while drilling and steadily monitoring their contact movement.
Extending the reach of these horizontal wells and reducing the problem of sand management will be discussed by Mahmoud Naguib, the Senior Petroleum Engineer for Melrose Resources Egypt. His contribution will highlight the cost minimization of the operating company's cluster drilling in the Nile Delta and how their operations increased oil recovery through horizontal well drilling.
Offering a more sobering perspective, Mohamed El Menyawy, the Operations General Manager for Fanar Petroleum Company in Egypt, will review the end of the giant discovery age and the jump in development costs, further compounding the importance of optimizing production.
