CAEN, France, December 6, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ESITC Caen, a French grande ecole specialised in civil engineering, has opened enrolment for its Sustainable Civil Engineering and Structural Design international semester, within the framework of the Erasmus exchange programme and through bilateral agreements. The programme - delivered in English - is designed for students possessing a bachelor's degree or equivalent wishing to specialize in sustainable construction.

Core classes include Project Management and the Behaviour of Construction Materials and specialized courses such as Sustainable Civil Engineering and Structure Design and Analysis. Case studies and research projects carried out in international teams complement the curriculum. Students will also have access to digital modelling tools, simulations and tests. Students are awarded 30 ECTS credits for completing the semester.

Professors on the programme are currently working or have worked as engineers and managers in leading French companies in the engineering sector and as researchers in ESITC Caen's laboratory on research projects.

"Whether we're talking about design, construction, maintenance, deconstruction or rehabilitation of buildings, the pedagogical approach at ESITC Caen seeks to provide students with knowledge, develop their skill set and instil eco-responsible behaviours," says Thierry Halconruy, Study and International Affairs Director at ESITC Caen.

The sustainable development specificity at ESITC Caen is directly related to the research activities of the school, especially in regards to the development of eco-materials and environmental geo-techniques.

Next school year, the programme will be open to select ESITC Caen French engineering students and additional opportunities will be made available to foreign students, like the possibility to enrol in an ESITC Caen degree programme, participate in a Specialized Master in Eco Materials and Sustainable Development or prepare a doctoral dissertation.

Studying at a French grande ecole represents an excellent opportunity to access an education based on the know-how of global leaders in engineering. There are no tuition fees as the programme is part of bilateral university exchanges. Caen is located 15 minutes from the sea and less than two hours from Paris by train on a campus of 25,000 students.
