ROCHESTER, New York, February 9 /PRNewswire/ --

- SEGway(TM) Platform Delivers Highest Density at Industry's Lowest Per Link Cost

Performance Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading provider of innovative communications solutions, today announced the expansion of its SEGway(TM) x401 signalling platform to 1500 links, tripling its throughput, and resulting in the largest capacity signalling solution available in a single carrier grade 12U chassis.

Due to increased call volumes, mobile number portability, and the exponential growth of SMS, operators are experiencing unprecedented strains on their signalling networks. Mobile commerce and entertainment applications provide new revenue streams, but place greater demands on already stressed SS7 networks. The ensuing need to increase throughput in the face of decreasing average revenue per user (ARPU) compels carriers to choose the best possible value for their network investments.

Designed to meet the evolving requirements of large carriers, Performance Technologies' expanded SEGway platform now offers throughput of 180,000 transactions per second, a rate unmatched at similar cost. The platform keeps pace with all signalling element requirements, supporting SS7, ATM, HSL, SigTran, and SIP signalling protocols, as well as existing SEGway applications. Unlike other core signalling systems, SEGway is easily installed and configured by the customer, and can be in service the same day.

At Performance Technologies, we strongly believe that a core-to-edge topology is the architecture of future signalling networks. Large wireless carriers throughout the world have already deployed our edge solution. However, without SEGway's top performance at the core, they have been unable to attain the lowest network cost structure, said Patt Rice, vice president and general manager of Performance Technologies' Signalling Products. SEGway x401 at their core is the missing element they needed for a high capacity, low cost network that grows and evolves with their requirements. By expanding the x401 capacity, we further strengthen our commitment to take a low cost, high density platform deeper into the network and provide the greatest value to our customers.

This strategic expansion of its SEGway platform broadens Performance Technologies' signalling portfolio, offering a robust core signalling node to large telecoms operators. The product enhancement positions the company to provide major carriers the maximum value at the lowest cost -- an attractive alternative to the compounding CAPEX and OPEX costs of upgrading legacy systems or purchasing excessive hardware. In addition, operating fewer hardware components at lower power consumption in a smaller footprint diminishes the impact on the environment, truly making it a 'green' product. Performance Technologies calls it Simply Smarter Signalling(TM).

Telecommunications system architects and carrier network engineers needing advanced, signalling solutions can meet with Performance Technologies representatives to learn more about the company's new SEGway x401 and other signalling solutions at the 2009 GSM Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, 16-19 February 2009 (stand 2.1D22).
