AUSTIN, Texas, November 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ringdale, Inc., a technology leader in network enhancing connectivity solutions, today announced that its ModuLAN(R) FaxReceiver(TM) and DocuSender(TM) appliances now can convert analog documents to portable document format (PDF) files. This feature allows users to deliver digital documents from FaxReceiver and DocuSender that are independent of application software, hardware and operating system.

Ringdale's line of ModuLAN modular, local area network fax appliances are aimed at environmentally conscious organizations that want to go green and are moving toward a less paper office. FaxReceiver consists of a small solid-state unit that connects to an Ethernet network and a phone line and converts incoming faxes into e-mails and sends them directly to an inbox. DocuSender consists of a small solid-state unit and a touch panel keypad that connect to a compatible USB-connected scanner, an Ethernet network and a phone line and scans outgoing documents to e-mail or fax. A PC or Fax Service is not needed to operate FaxReceiver or DocuSender.

FaxReceiver and DocuSender already convert documents to a GIF format. PDF, the native file format for Acrobat(R), is a convenient way to deliver documents online, as many users have a PDF reader and can download them easily. A PDF file can contain thousands of pages with a combination of fonts, graphics, color and images, and will retain the original layout and typesetting.

DocuSender can be used standalone or in a server-based environment to allow user authentication at the scanner utilizing Ringdale's unique FollowMe(R) secure document capture and output management technology, and to match documents to distinct identifiers, such as client codes or barcodes, when attached to USB-connected readers. Up to two readers can connect to DocuSender at one time.

The scanners that DocuSender currently supports are USB-connected with automatic document feeders: Visioneer(R) 9750 PDF, 9650 and 9450; Visioneer Patriot(TM) series 780, 680, 470 and 430; Visioneer RoadWarrior (future enhancement); Xerox(R) DocuMate(R) series 632, 520, 272 and 152; Fujitsu(R) fi-5220C and fi-5015C, and HP(R) Scanjet(R) 8270, N8400 family; other makes will be supported in the future.
