ARNHEM, The Netherlands, September 24 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international consultancy, design, engineering and management services company, announced today that it has won several large infrastructure projects in Poland, with a total value for the company of approximately EUR 20 million. It concerns two road contracts, and two rail assignments. Up until 2013, Poland, supported by European Union funding, plans to invest approximately EUR28 billion in road and rail infrastructure.

The road projects relate to 135 km of the S19 express road, the main thoroughfare for Eastern Poland. For the sections between Lutoryz and Barwinek and between Nisko and Stobierna ARCADIS will perform design, as well as construction supervision. For the first 87 km section ARCADIS will cooperate with partner Mosty Katowice. The second 48 km section will be done by ARCADIS alone. The client is the Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. The S19 has to meet all necessary environmental requirements. It will stimulate economic growth in Eastern Poland and is important for the European Football Championships EURO 2012, to be hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

The two railway projects are feasibility studies for the modernization of two sections of the railway line from Miedzylesie to Wroclaw and from Kostrzyn to Szczecin. Of this project 85% of the funding will be covered by the European Union Cohesion Fund. For both sections, consortia in which ARCADIS takes part will prepare pre design documentation, including technical and cost analysis, environmental impact assessments and documents needed to obtain European Union co-funding. The modernization will allow higher speeds for freight trains (120 km/h) and passenger trains (160 km/h), increase capacity and improve passenger safety and comfort.

"We are clearly benefiting from the strong demand for infrastructure services in the Polish market," said Michiel Jaski, Executive Board member of ARCADIS. "In railway work, it proves that the acquisition earlier this year of Elekol, a company specialized in railway design, was a good step. The combination of our infrastructure skills and our environmental know-how make us a leading player in the Polish market."
